Attorney Gilland Chenault

Gilland Chenault’s practice is focused on the areas of fiduciary litigation, contested and uncontested probate, trust matters, and estate administration.  His firm also offers services in estate planning, real estate and civil litigation.

He represents executors, trustees, beneficiaries and other individuals who are involved in lawsuits governed by the Texas Estates Code (formerly Texas Probate Code) and the Texas Trust Code.   He has built a strong reputation in these areas and was named a Super Lawyer in the area of estate and trust litigation by Texas Super Lawyers in 2021 – 2023 and was previously named a Texas Rising Star from 2015 to 2018.

In addition to representing his individual clients, he has served in numerous roles in the Texas Probate Court system.  These have included being a Court appointed Trustee, a Receiver concerning the sale of real property, a Court appointed Guardian of the Person and Estate of an alleged incapacitated individual and a Court appointed Administrator in multiple complex, high value and contested estates.

Mr. Chenault is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Denton Bar Association. He serves as an Attorney and Guardian Ad Litem with the Denton County Probate Court and is a past Vice-President of the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Section of the Denton Bar Association.

Mr. Chenault’s family has deep Texas roots and has been involved in the Texas commercial real estate and oil field tool completion business for four generations. He continues to be involved in this enterprise and provides counsel regarding business entity operations and contractual issues and is a co-owner in commercial real estate investment partnership.

Mr. Chenault has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Corinth, Texas Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) and as a member of on the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools of North Texas.

He currently serves as a Court appointed Special Commissioner on Eminent Domain hearings in Denton County.

Mr. Chenault is a graduate of Baylor University School of Law and received a B.A. in History from Texas Tech University with magna cum laude honors.

He entered the private practice of law in 2004. In the latter part of 2007, Mr. Chenault joined Texas Woman’s University, the largest public institution primarily for women in the nation, where he served in the role of Charitable Planned Giving Officer and Executive Director of Institutional Development. He was responsible for all estate gifts, trusts, property, endowment and fundraising issues for the University along with the operations of the Texas Woman’s University’s Foundation.   He also taught Civil Trial Practice & Procedure as part of the University’s legal studies certificate program.

In January of 2011, he resumed the private practice of law full time and established the Chenault Law Firm based in Denton County, Texas.  It has continued to expand with multiple staff and attorneys and handles matters throughout North Texas. The firm has steadily grown and expanded.
